Our Story

We’re a team of jewelry experienced designers & goldsmiths creating custom & handcrafted fine jewelry on-site and showcasing curated collections from designers around the world for more than 45 years.

When Jim Turner began creating jewelry in 1973, he built his client base on the belief that the customer deserves first-quality workmanship and exceptional service. The philosophy worked and he opened his shop, Expressions Jewelers, in the summer of 1976. Today, he continues the tradition in business with his daughter, Mary Van Buer.

At our newest location, 1913 East Locust Street in Davenport, you will find examples of the most beautiful jewelry from the finest designers in the world as well as lovely custom and one-of-a-kind designs from our own shop.

Expressions at its first location in 1977

Just over a year after opening his first store, Jim moved into a larger and more modern facility in a busier location. Things went well until the early 1980’s when economic recession on top of the skyrocketing precious metal and gemstone prices forced him to make a mid-course correction. Jim moved his store to a small downtown Davenport location on the sixth floor of an office building. There he built a salon-style retail business while performing manufacturing and repair work to local jewelry stores. This move was a blessing in disguise. It gave Jim the opportunity and experience to improve his skills as a bench jeweler and train a staff to understand the importance of personal service to the customer while providing the ultimate in quality workmanship.

1983 brought yet another move for Expressions Jewelers to a larger store and workshop in the historic Village of East Davenport.

In 1992 he was joined, in partnership, by Roger Peet, a gemologist with years of retail jewelry experience. Roger brought with him knowledge of diamonds and gemstones and credentials from both the Gemological Institute of America and the American Gem Society, two of the most prestigious organizations within the jewelry industry.

In 2014 Jim’s daughter, Mary Van Buer joined the business as Roger Peet retired. Mary is a Certified Gemologist with the American Gem Society and a Gemological Institute of America Graduate Gemologist.
