About Expressions Jewelers
Expressions Jewelers is a second-generation, family-owned jewelry store in Davenport, Iowa, serving the Quad Cities since 1976. We combine skilled craftsmanship, gemological expertise, and honest guidance to help our clients choose, create, and care for jewelry that holds genuine meaning.
Since 1976
Our Story
Jim Turner began creating jewelry in 1973 with a belief that every client deserved exceptional workmanship and personal service. That philosophy became Expressions Jewelers when he opened his first store in Davenport in the summer of 1976.
Over the decades, Jim built the business through his skill as a goldsmith and the lasting relationships he formed with his clients. Expressions became known for custom jewelry design, careful restoration, knowledgeable guidance, and jewelry selected for its quality and beauty.
Jim’s daughter, Mary Van Buer, joined the business in 2014. Today, Jim, Mary, and their experienced team continue that tradition from their showroom and workshop on East Locust Street in Davenport.

Our team holds education and credentials from the Gemological Institute of America, a leading authority in gemological research, education, and laboratory services. GIA training provides the scientific foundation needed to identify and evaluate diamonds, gemstones, and jewelry accurately.
National Association of Jewelry Appraisers
Mary is a Retail Appraiser member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers, the only appraisal organization in the United States devoted exclusively to gems and jewelry. Her membership supports continued appraisal-specific education, professional resources, and informed reporting.

Our appreciation for gemstones extends to the people and communities where they originate. Expressions Jewelers proudly supports Gem Legacy and its work providing vocational training, entrepreneurship opportunities, and community development in East African artisanal gem-mining communities.
In 2022, Mary traveled to Tanzania and Kenya to experience the work of Gem Legacy firsthand. The trip gave us an even deeper appreciation for the people, skill, and remarkable human journey behind every gemstone.
